The advantages of using Halnn CBN tools to machine the wear-resistant steel parts


With the working environment of mechanical parts getting poorer, manufacturing requirements are also gradually strict. So people often add wear-resistant materials or deposit resistant materials on the work pieces surface by repair process in the production and repair of wearing parts, getting a good performance and lifetime.

Currently, common wear-resistant material is divided into three series:
(1)Wear-resistant steel series,
(2)Wear-resistant cast iron series,
(3)non-metallic wear-resistant materials,
All of them are all commonly wear-resistant materials.

This article mainly introduce the wear-resistant steel products application, and how to choose the cbn tool machining wear-resistant steel products which has a high hardness.

Part 1 Application of the wear-resistant steel products

The full name of Wear-resistant steel is the steel material with good wear-resisting property, is the most widely used wear-resistant material. Wear-resistant steel has a lot of kinds, it can be divided into high-manganese steel, medium and low alloy wear-resistant steel, chrome molybdenum silicon-manganese steel, cavitation damage resistant steel, abrasion resistant steel, and other special wear-resistant steel. Some common alloy steel such as stainless steel, bearing steel, alloy tool steel and alloy structural steel, are also used as a wear-resistant steel with some certain conditions, as those source was convenient, have excellent performance, so holds a certain proportion in the use of wear-resistant steel.

Wear-resistant steel is widely used in mining machinery, coal mining transport, engineering machinery, agricultural machinery, building materials, electrical machinery, railway transportation and other sectors. For example, the ball and liner of the ball mill; crusher’s plate, hammer; crawler tractors and tanks board, with the central groove boards of coal scraper conveyor.

Part 2 The notice during machining the wear-resistant steel and the requirements of the tools performance

Most wear-resistant steel products are molded by casting, the difficult problems during machine (1) high hardness,
(2) severe hardening, such as high manganese steel parts;
(3) the large size wear-resistant steel has casting defects;
(4) The workpiece after surfacing repair has a irregular surfacte.

Performance of the tools required:
(1) High hardness and good wear resistance;
(2) A strong impact toughness and fatigue resistance;
(3) Long life;
(4) Big cutting allowance when machining.

Currently cubic boron nitride(CBN) cutting tools is the only tools which suit for machining wear-resistant steel work piece, cubic boron nitride is the best tools material for machining ferrous metal, especially cubic boron nitride cutting tools non-metallic adhesive BN-S20 which developed by Halnn Superhard Material. BN-S20 can machine with big cutting allowance and interrupted cutting,and also no chipping or not wear well ,while the traditional cubic boron nitride cutting tools can not. This is the biggest advantage compared to conventional cubic boron nitride cutting tools.
